Unbeaten on their return to Division One, Essex continued their fine form after demolishing Yorkshire within two days - and they have Mohammad Amir to thank. The Pakistan paceman tore through Yorkshire's batting line-up and racked up his career-best figures of 10/72 in the process. If Amir continues to be unplayable, Essex will certainly have one eye on their first County Champ triumph for 25 years.
Mohammad Amir - Essex
10/72 v Yorkshire
The King of Swing, and we’re not just talking about his fancy dance moves, Mohammad Amir, took his first Championship 10-wicket haul as he helped Essex roll through Yorkshire inside two days. Moving it both ways with venomous pace, Amir ensured the Eagles extended their lead at the top of the Championship, in their first season back in Division One.
Chirs Woakes - Warwickshire
5/95 & 53 vs Middlesex
Chris Woakes came back from injury with a bang! The England-all-rounder returned from two months out to help fire Warwickshire to their first win of the season. Not only did he takes five wickets in their crushing of Middlesex at Lord’s, but Woakes also chipped in with a half-century. Welcome back!
Steven Davies - Somerset
142 v Surrey
Wicketkeeper-batsman Steven Davies came back to haunt his old side, Surrey, by hitting his maiden Somerset century to put the West Country side in control. Davies looked at his fluid best, hitting 14 fours and a six, before rain washed out the rest of the play on the second afternoon and the whole of Day Three.
Keith Barker - Warwickshire
3/21 & 62* vs Middlesex
Burly left-armer Barker also impressed with the ball and the bat in Warwickshire’s memorable Lord’s victory. Batting at eight in the second innings, the all-rounder scored 62 valuable unbeaten runs to propel the Bears into a strong position. He then dovetailed superbly with new ball partner Woakes, taking 3/21 as they bowled Middlesex out in a session.
