Khadija Patel - Founder, KRIMMZ Girls Youth Club

My journey into cricket started at home. Growing up as one of six sisters in Bolton, sport wasn’t always something that was easily accessible to us, but cricket found its way in through our dad. He loved the game, and because he had a cash and carry with a large open space, we would often play there together. It wasn’t structured or formal, but it was fun, competitive, and it planted a seed that stayed with me.

Today, I am the founder of KRIMMZ Girls Youth Club, where we create opportunities for women and girls, particularly from underrepresented communities to take part in sport, including cricket. My role involves developing programmes, working with partners, and creating safe, inclusive environments where women and girls feel confident to step into spaces that haven’t always been designed with them in mind.

What I’m most proud of is seeing more women and girls getting involved in cricket, many for the very first time whether they are five years old or 50 years old! Whether it’s picking up a bat, joining a session, or stepping into leadership roles, the impact goes far beyond the sport itself. It’s about confidence, belonging, and breaking down barriers.

What drives me is knowing that representation matters. When women and girls see people like them in these spaces, it changes what they believe is possible.

To other women and girls considering getting involved in cricket – give it a go, you don’t need to have played before, just show up and take that first step.
