Sheromie Brewster - Coach, ACE Programme & Head of Cage Cricket London

I have been working within ACE for four years as a coach on the academy, supporting training sessions and matches; schools and community hubs for children and young adults aged from 10 to 23 years old. Whilst being a lead coach on their Blaze Her Trial Programme and becoming an ECB Coach Developer. ACE allows participants the time to focus mentally, physically, tactically and socially.

Not only do they develop their cricket skills but their social development integration skills too. This is very important for a young person who can express themselves and truly be themselves in a cricket environment that provides some acceptance.

The experience working with ACE has allowed me to teach the fundamentals of cricket to a high standard but with an easy-going manner that has impressed my colleagues greatly during my period of work. I enjoy interacting with both children and young adults, and I am willing to take the initiative and can organise a session efficiently and correctly in terms of the safety of the participants. I always aim to do this with enthusiasm and smile on my face.

I also head Cage Cricket London for all age groups and abilities, overseeing inclusive cricket programs and development across communities. Launched Cage Cricket programs in Barbados and Sri Lanka, introducing yearly schools tournaments and ongoing youth community engagement initiatives. Delivering inclusive youth engagement sessions with Cage Cricket for all ages and abilities, in collaboration with Kings Trust Team Programmes and contribute to community fundraising and the Get Active summer youth programmes as part of broader community outreach and development initiatives.

These programs emphasise “get active,” community participation, and social development. Organised corporate fundraising events and employability days to support participation, skill-building and wider community impact.

Cricket first became an important part of my life from a young age when I started scoring for my dad’s cricket matches. Sitting with the scorebook, I learned the rules, tactics and rhythm of the game, which sparked a lifelong love of cricket and a desire to contribute and give back.

I am most proud of the impact I can have on young people helping them build confidence and technical ability while also developing social skills and a sense of belonging. Seeing participants grow, not just in cricket but in how they communicate, collaborate and support one another, is incredibly rewarding. Being a lead coach on the Blaze Her Trial Programme and earning my ECB Coach Developer accreditation.

The Cage Cricket London work, Barbados and Sri Lanka launches, and corporate/ employability initiatives amplify opportunities for participation, employability and community engagement.

Cricket welcomes your energy, voice, and leadership, whether you want to play, volunteer, or coach.
