ECB launches Champions of Change to inspire the next generation of cricket leaders

Applications are now open for Champions of Change, a new programme designed to empower young people aged 14–18 to use cricket as a platform for positive change in their clubs and communities.

Launched by the England and Wales Cricket Board alongside the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026, Champions of Change will support young people to turn their ideas into action and play an active role in making cricket more inclusive, welcoming and representative of the communities it serves.

With the tournament taking place right now across England and Wales, the programme forms part of the ECB’s ambition to ensure the World Cup creates a lasting legacy beyond the boundary - inspiring more girls, young people and volunteers to see a future for themselves in the game.

Turning ideas into action

Champions of Change invites young people connected to a cricket club or community organisation to develop and deliver a project that makes a difference locally. Projects could include growing girls’ cricket, improving accessibility and inclusion, enhancing facilities, designing more inclusive kit, or creating new opportunities for young people to have their voices heard.

Applicants do not need to have a fully formed plan to take part. The programme is looking for young people with an idea, enthusiasm and a desire to help shape the future of cricket.  Successful applicants will:

  • Be supported to develop and deliver a project that creates positive impact in their club or community.
  • Build confidence, leadership skills and practical experience.
  • Take part in an inspiring in-person workshop to kick-start their journey.
  • Access online learning, guidance and ongoing support.
  • Connect with a network of like-minded young people across England and Wales.
  • Receive exclusive ICC Women’s T20 World Cup merchandise.

Using the World Cup to build a more inclusive game

By supporting young people to lead projects in their own environments, the programme aims to open up new routes into leadership and volunteering, while helping clubs and community organisations become more inclusive places to play, watch and belong.

The programme will help young leaders explore how cricket can better reflect the needs and ambitions of their communities, ensuring more young people feel able to take part in the sport and influence its future.

Applications are open now and close on Sunday 5 July: https://app.smartsheet.eu/b/form/019d966d3c527fefb03f2dc9a203232f
