Five England players have been named in the ICC’s ODI and IT20 teams of the year.
Unsurprisingly after a year in which Heather Knight’s team won the 50-over World Cup she has been chosen as the captain of the side.
She has been joined by three of her colleagues, two batters in the shape of Player of the Tournament Tammy Beaumont at the top of the order and wicketkeeper Sarah Taylor in the middle order.
Slow-left armer Alex Hartley - for whom it has been a real breakthrough year - is also in the XI. England’s quota of four players means no other nation has as many players in the side.
There is also England representation in the IT20 side, off the back of the 2-1 series victory in Australia.
Danni Wyatt, who scored 169 runs in the IT20 series at 56 - including a historic 56-ball hundred, was picked to open the batting.
The England team are also represented in the newly launched ICC Fans Moment of the Year Award, a reflection of the supporters’ favourite moment of 2017.
The ICC Women’s World Cup final at Lord’s in July is up against Pakistan men’s surprise victory in the ICC Champions Trophy, the accession of Ireland and Afghanistan men’s teams to full Test status and the World Cricket League success of the Netherlands men’s team.
Australian all-rounder Ellyse Perry, who shone for the hosts in the multi-format 8-8 Ashes draw, was awarded the inaugural Rachael Heyhoe Flint Award for the ICC Women’s Cricketer of the Year.
Heather Knight was happy to see her teammates earn further reward for their memorable 12 months.
“It’s been a special year and one we won’t forget for a very long time.
“It’s always nice to see that recognised and I’m proud to see five of our team picked across these teams.
“It’s especially special for Tammy, Alex and Danni - players who have had to battle for their time at the top - and it speaks volumes for their character and their quality.”
