Four England players visited northern Sri Lanka this week to learn about the work being done to clear the area of landmines still affecting people in the area following the 26-year civil war.
Joe Root, Jonny Bairstow, Keaton Jennings and Olly Stone flew from Kandy to the village of Periyamadu, which was on the frontline of the conflict - and where unexploded landmines still pose a daily threat to the local population.
With the support of the Mines Advisory Group, an area of 1.3 million square metres - 59 times the size of the Lord's playing area - has been de-mined, with the aim to make the area completely mine-free by 2020.
Bairstow said: "The scale of it is amazing. To be able to learn about a country's history, with the war, and how they've tried to get people back together — this is a massive project.
"De-mining must be so nerve-racking — knowing that if you place one finger wrong, that could be it."
