Child-friendly privacy notice for ECB app users

Most of our apps don’t let us find out anything about you but we may learn a bit about the gadget you use so we can make the app work. We also find out the type of people who like using our app and where they are (grown-ups call this ‘analytics’)

Some of our apps let you use other apps we have or need you to have an ECB account.  If you are younger than 13, you will need a grown up to do this for you.

Who we are

The England and Wales Cricket Board Limited (ECB for short) looks after cricket in England and Wales and helps people get involved in the game

How to get in touch with us

The best way is to email us at privacy@ecb.co.uk. Other ways to get in touch with us are in our Privacy Policy

Information about you

Usually we only get information about the gadget you use to use our apps.  Sometimes we may find out a bit more about the type of people who use our apps such as their age groups, whether they are boys or girls, the types of things they like (such as favourite players and teams) and which countries they are from and which bits of the app you use and what competitions you join in and prizes you win.  Lots of our apps have cool things in them like letting us know what you like when you are at a match.  If that means we need to know where you are, we will tell you at the time if you need to do something on your gadget so you can join in.  For some apps we may ask you to choose a username or a ‘nickname’ so that when you use the app it is personal for you.  If we need any other information about you, you will see what we need on the screen when you use the app.

You may have heard grown ups talking about a virus called Covid and we want to make sure everyone is safe when they come to watch a cricket match.  If our app has your ticket to get in to a match, we may need to ask questions about you to make sure you are well.  If we find out someone at a match you have been to has Covid we may have to tell the NHS who you are so they can let you (or the grown up responsible for you) know if there is a problem.

Where we get your information from

We may get information from you or your parent or carer.  If someone you know invited you to join in the fun on one of our apps they may give us some information so that we can send you the invitation.  As well as this, some of the information comes from the app store (that’s the place your copy of the app was downloaded from).

What we will do with your information

We use your information (1) to make our app work (2) to help us learn about who is using our apps and which bits are most popular so we can make them fun for as many people as possible  (3) to tell you about our other apps and other cricket things you might enjoy but only if your parent / or carer says that is OK or you are old enough to say it is OK yourself (4) to keep our promises to you and to get in touch with you about them (5)  to do what the law says we have to do (7) to help you use our app and to answer any questions and deal with any problems.

Who we may share your information with

We use some very clever companies to help us make and run our apps so they may get to see your information.  We also have some super smart people who advise us if there are problems and that means we may have to let them see some of your information but they have to follow rules to protect it.  If you join in with one of our competitions the people we run it with may need to know who you are so we may let them know We may tell the NHS who you are if someone has Covid at a match you go to.

Why we are allowed to use your information

In most cases we can use it so that we can keep any promises we have made to you (or your parent or carer) or because you or your parent or carer have said it is OK.   We also use it because it is good for us and for loads of others to help make sure lots of people can get involved in cricket.  Sometimes the law says we have to do things and we can use your information to make that possible and if we have to solve any problems we can use your information to try to fix them.

Where your information is kept

We will normally keep your personal data in the UK or the European Economic Area (if you don’t know where that is – have a look at our Privacy Policy). If you use one of our apps in other places, your information may go there. Some of the people we use to run our apps are in other places and if they are, we make sure we and they follow the rules to protect it.

Getting other stuff about cricket

Some ECB apps give you the chance to get other apps and things to do with cricket or to see things that we think you would like. You can change your mind whenever you want.

How long we keep your information

We normally keep your information for 2 years after you last used the app.

What you can make us do with your information

You can get to see the information we have about you, to stop us sending you information about other things, you can change your mind if you have told us something is OK, you can correct your information, you may be allowed to stop us doing some things or make us get rid of your information or object to us doing some things with it.  You might also be able to make us send a copy of your information to someone else.   Have a look at the tabs in the app (usually ‘Settings’ or ‘More’) or our Privacy Policy to find out more

What to do if you don’t like what we do with your information

You can email us at privacy@ecb.co.uk or, if you are really unhappy, you can tell the Information Commissioner (the person who tells off companies for doing the wrong thing with personal information).
