England U19s keep tri-series hopes alive

Kasey Aldridge took five wickets in England's emphatic win in Antigua

Kasey Aldridge took five wickets as England U19's set up a five-wicket win against West Indies U19's to strengthen their claim for a place in the final of the tri-series in Antigua.

Aldridge dismissed Kirk McKenzie and Leonardo Julien for ducks at the top of the innings, with his fellow Somerset all-rounder Lewis Goldsworthy and Nottinghamshire’s Joey Evison also picking up early wickets.

Captain Kimani Melius kept the West Indies’ innings together until his dismissal to Hamidullah Qadri in the 26th over, with the hosts losing their last six wickets for 46 runs – bowled out for 116 in 40 overs.

England’s reply was mature and measured, the top three all reaching the 20s to get the chase off to a solid start. Gloucestershire’s Ben Charlesworth hit 29 before falling in the 11th over, having added 46 with Kent’s Jordan Cox.

Sussex batsman Tom Clark scored 24, while Cox dug in until the 32nd over for his 24. George Hill, who captained the match for England, then helped knock off the winning runs with Evison. Hill hit 17 from 21 balls to take England over the winning line for their second victory of the series.

England’s defeat against Sri Lanka on Wednesday leaves them with two wins and two losses in the series. Two more matches against Sri Lanka remain on Sunday and Thursday for a place in the final on Saturday 21 December.
