The 2026 Rothesay County Championship is in the history books, with a thrilling title race, as well as promotion and relegation battles that went into the final week. Here's all the information on who will be playing where in 2027.
County Championship winners
With three teams in the running for the title heading into the last two weeks of the season, it was Warwickshire who peaked at the right time to lift the trophy.
The Bears won all of their final four matches of the season - two of them by an innings - as rivals Somerset and Nottinghamshire faltered down the stretch.
Division One relegation
Hampshire had a season to forget, becoming the first team relegated on the penultimate week of the season. Securing only four batting bonus points all season, the South Coast county struggled to impose themselves in games.
With an average first innings score of just 214, compared to 295 for their oppostion, Hampshire often found themselves on the back foot early in games, which was ultimately their downfall.
Leicestershire will join Hampshire in Division Two next season, having their relegation confirmed in the final round of matches. A 27-point deduction, handed down for preparing a poor pitch in their match against Glamorgan, all but consigned the Foxes to their fate, but a final-round loss to Warwickshire finalised their relegation.
Leicestershire will appeal their sanction.
Division Two promotion
Durham finished the season unbeaten, with nine wins from their 14 games, to win the Division Two title at a canter. Both Ben McKinney and David Bedingham passed 1,000 runs in the season, while Matt Potts finished the season with 60 wickets.
The race for the second promotion place went down to the final week, with Kent pipping Northamptonshire to the runner-up spot and returning to Division One. Kent won four of their final six games, drawing one (against Northamptonshire) and losing one. Northants, meanwhile, couldn't find their early-season consistency, winning just two of their last six and a final-round defeat to Middlesex ended their hopes of going up.
Kent return to Division One two years after being relegated in 2024.
